Challenge 4 - Sort of done!

Published on 28 December 2024 at 21:13

Now I've said some of these challenges are silly but personal to me....this is one of those. Now for people who don't know three of my most prized possessions are Pingu, or to give him his full name, Sir Pingu of Pinguington I, and my two penguin stones. Pingu has been with me since birth and has gone with me from place to place, always proudly on display, he's been a confident, a source of comfort in the worse times of my life, a study partner and most importantly my assistant manager when it comes to Football manager.

My two stone penguins have also been with me from a young age. My dad was stationed in the Falkland Islands during his time in the RAF and made them for me when he was over there. They have also followed me from place to place, yes the beaks broke off a long time ago and to most people they would appear to be worthless but to me they are priceless.

So these are a major reason that I've always said my spirit animal is the penguin,  and not just because when I was a little bit on the larger side I used to waddle around like one. It's a weird one to have I understand and I hate to think what it say about my psyche....in fact give me one second and let me look into that...apparently according to www.spirit-animal.com  People with the penguin totem can create anything and everything they choose in life. They understand the concept of teamwork and utilize it regularly to get what they want. Folks with this spirit animal totem know precisely where they are going". So maybe they don't really know what they are talking about.

Right I'm back in the zone, so penguins have always been around me and I could honestly spend hours watching them and have done at London Zoo and other places, the way they glide through the water, the way they always look happy to me.

So as I've mentioned above my dad was stationed in the Falklands during his time in the RAF and what better way to honour him than to cross one off my list at the same time as honouring him. This year has been difficult for me, but the one thing I am glad of is that me and him have never been closer. It's not like we ever fell out or had issues we just didn't spend time together and have that bond, that's not the case these days, we've developed a bond that means the world to me and as I said, it's one of the few great things that has come about this year.

So thanks to the fine people at the Falklands Conservation group I've adopted a penguin! And to honour my dad and his exploits over on the other side of the world his name is Gaz. I did think about calling him Sir Pingu of Penguington the younger a little bit like Pitt the younger, but after careful discussions with the original Pingu it was decided this wasn't an option, so Gaz it is. Now I've paid for the year and am just waiting for the pack to come through.....as soon as that happens I'll post a pic of Gaz, until then this challenge is nearly done!
